In February my film Erasable Cities will have it's Canadian premiere at Cinesonika 2 in Vancouver B.C. Cinesonika is an international film and video festival focusing on innovative sound design. Jason Staczek who composed the score entered the festival, so this time I'm tagging along with him. Jason also composed the score for the new Guy Maddin film Keyhole, and the festival will screen a short film about the making of the score called F-Hole. They haven't given us an a date for the screenings yet, but will be either the 18th or 19th.
And on December 2nd my film Shiny Things was included in The Stranger's Short Film Fridays, along with a nice writeup by Charles Mudede.

Erasable Cities

I have three more screenings to end the year. November 25th How to Draw Clouds will screen in Valencia, Spain- included in the last screening of Cut + Run Touring Festival. The screening will take place at Espacio La Mutante. December 8th & 10th The Swimmer will screen in Paris at Festival des Cinémas Différents et Expérimentaux de Paris hosted by Collectif Jeune Cinema. And December 17th Other Cinema in San Francisco will have the world premiere of my newest film- Erasable Cities, included in a program of new works titled N.E.W. Erasable Cities is my loose interpretation of Italo Calvino's Invisible Cities.

The Swimmer

My film The Swimmer will be included in more festivals. In Portland on Friday- 11/11/11, opening night for Northwest Film & Video Festival,  and Paris, December 8th & 10th, part of Festival des Cinémas Différents et Expérimentaux de Paris. The Swimmer is my four minute reinterpretation of the 1968 film starring Burt Landcaster, based on the short story by John Cheever.

 

My film The Swimmer will have two screenings next month- Northwest Film Forum's Local Sightings, October 4th at 9 pm, and also locally, but in another country Antimatter Film Festival in Victoria B.C. Antimatter hasn't made their schedule yet, but the festival is October 14-22.

Inter-Action: European Tour

The Inter-Action: Shorts by SEAT program heads to Europe this fall. Starting October 8th at London's Horse Hospital, the show then travels to Newcastle, Amsterdam, Groningen, Amsterdam, Berlin, Vienna, and ends in Paris on October 28th. The program is curated by animator Tess Martin.

Recycled Visions

Finally, the collection of my short experimental films- Recycled Visions is complete and will have it's premiere at Northwest Film Forum on August 21st. A shorter version of the program screened at NWFF in October 2009 and ran as a month long installation at Walker Art Center's galleries in 2010. And earlier this year an almost completed version screened at Portland's Hollywood Theater via Grand Detour. Funding for the extended program came from a generous grant from Seattle Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs, and funding for the entire program came from grants from 4Culture, Seattle Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs and Artist Trust. This is a collection of my films from 2005-2011.

The Long Walk

Myself and members of SEAT were invited to make artworks/ animations for Susan Robb's project The Long Walk- a group of 50 walkers trekked for 4 days, and 3 nights from Puget Sound to Snoqualmie Falls.  The event took place July 28-31 along the King County Regional Trail System. I was exited to make my first visual art project in years (the above photos). My idea was to make 50 small drawings of a walker (taken from one of my films).  The process of drawing from life (or photos) is all about observation. It's about the slowing down of time that allows you see and experience things in ways you never have before. This was also the purpose of The Long Walk. The installation was only up for a few hours till the Long Walkers passed by, then I took it down and photographed the drawings for a short looped animation. Two other SEAT members (Britta Johnson & Tess Martin) also made trail installations that were made into looped animations. The following day we made a kite installation in a barn further up the trail near Carnation under the guidance of SEAT member Webster Crowell, and that evening our animations were projected on the kites during a Long Walk social event (photos of the kite installation can be see here). I feel very honored to have been involved with this event, and hope next year to maybe experience it as a walker.
