The Long Walk
Myself and members of SEAT were invited to make artworks/ animations for Susan Robb's project The Long Walk- a group of 50 walkers trekked for 4 days, and 3 nights from Puget Sound to Snoqualmie Falls. The event took place July 28-31 along the King County Regional Trail System. I was exited to make my first visual art project in years (the above photos). My idea was to make 50 small drawings of a walker (taken from one of my films). The process of drawing from life (or photos) is all about observation. It's about the slowing down of time that allows you see and experience things in ways you never have before. This was also the purpose of The Long Walk. The installation was only up for a few hours till the Long Walkers passed by, then I took it down and photographed the drawings for a short looped animation. Two other SEAT members (Britta Johnson & Tess Martin) also made trail installations that were made into looped animations. The following day we made a kite installation in a barn further up the trail near Carnation under the guidance of SEAT member Webster Crowell, and that evening our animations were projected on the kites during a Long Walk social event (photos of the kite installation can be see here). I feel very honored to have been involved with this event, and hope next year to maybe experience it as a walker.

New film online- Shiny Things
I decided to put one of my music films online. The song is of course Neil Young's Heart of Gold. The arrangement and original score is by the excellent Jason Staczek, and vocals by the ethereal Alicia Dara.
One of the reasons I uploaded this is because I would like to take a stab at music videos.... so all you musicians out there who'd like something out of the ordinary in music videos, let me know.

About myself
I am a visual artist who in 2005 started experimenting with film. I mostly work with found footage, either old educational films, vintage Hollywood, or film that has been donated to me. I then tear apart the structure of the original film and convert it into something different. These films have traveled to film festivals, nonprofit cinemas and art museums around the globe…. International Film Festival Rotterdam, L’Alternativa- Barcelona, Seattle International Film Festival, Walker Art Center- Minneapolis, Other Cinema- San Francisco. And I have won some awards…. Technical Innovation at the 2006 Ann Arbor Film Festival, and Grand Prix of the Press at the 2010 Paris Festival of Different and Experimental Film. I am currently finishing up a program of my short films- Recycled Visions. Smaller versions of my program have screened at Northwest Film Forum in Seattle, Grand Detour in Portland and a month long continuous run at Walker Art Center. If you’re interested in booking a screening or have any other projects I might be interested in you can contact me - salise.hughes@gmail.com.
